diskover pattern background

DISKOVER + DELL TECHNOLOGIES

Get the full value from every Dell investment.

PowerScale indexer

Fast, multi-threaded scanning through the PowerScale API, scaling out as the cluster grows.

SmartPools analytics

Dozens of SmartPools attributes, searchable and reportable by tier, node pool, and file age.

PowerScale data catalog

Key-value metadata on every file and folder, such as project, status, and retention.

Quota

Usage and growth by quota, next to the files inside it, so you know what to clean up first.

MetadataIQ

Keeps the index fresh with only what changed since the last snapshot, plus business context.

Unity

Storage space and NFS or SMB file shares from Dell Unity, in the same view as PowerScale.

SmartSync

Move the right data by policy or on demand, from PowerScale to ECS, Amazon S3, or Azure.

SyncIQ snapshots

Search months of local and SyncIQ snapshots, then restore a file or a whole snapshot.

ECS and ObjectScale

Object storage in the same index as file storage, ready to receive the data you tier.

Dell Data Lakehouse

Curated, contextual metadata for analytics and BI, in open formats such as Parquet.

Dell AI Factory

The right unstructured files, with their context, ready for training, RAG, and AI pipelines.

Turn PowerScale into a business data catalog.

PowerScale can hold custom key-value metadata on every file. Diskover fills those keys with business meaning, such as project, status, client, and retention, and joins them with base metadata in one searchable record. Dell explains why this matters in its blog Why your files should be as smart as objects.

With that business context, Diskover rules can decide what to tier from more than file age. For example, a rule can move every completed project that has not changed in 12 months to the archive tier, and keep it there until its retention period ends. PowerScale SmartPools moves the files. Diskover decides which files move.

Set SmartPools policies from real data.

Move the right data with Dell SmartSync.

Dell SmartSync moves data between PowerScale and object storage. Diskover decides what moves, with policies based on any metadata in the catalog, such as file age, project status, or storage cost. Policies run on a schedule or on demand. Users can also archive, move, or restore their own files from the Diskover interface, and the files stay searchable after they move.

Diagram: self-service requests and automated rules feed Diskover, which decides what data belongs where and when. Dell SmartSync then moves the data to a PowerScale cluster, Dell ECS, AWS S3, Azure Blob, and other object storage.

Better data in. Better AI and analytics out.

Search every snapshot. Restore in a few steps.

Diskover indexes local and SyncIQ snapshots on every cluster. One search covers months of snapshots, by any metadata in the catalog, such as name, path, owner, date, or project tag. Users pick the right version and restore a single file or a whole snapshot, to the original or a new location, without opening a ticket.
