For extremely precise data movement and integrity monitoring, the Diskover Hash Differential Plugin is designed to checksum hash values between the original file and the resulting file once it reaches its transfer destination, catching any possible file corruption in the process.

Data integrity
File action triggered by end users via the Diskover user interface
Overview
Diskover has your data integrity covered using multiple checksum validation tools, including the new hash differential plugin. Upon hash differential configuration in Diskover, the hash values are harvested during indexing making them searchable, reportable, and actionable.
Digital assets are expensive to produce…and even more to reproduce…so don’t lose your original content when there is an affordable and easy way to validate your files’ integrity with perfect accuracy.
Hash values are like fingerprints; they are unique to each file. They are the results of a cryptographic algorithm, which is a mathematical equation with different complexity and security levels, used to scramble the plain text and make it unreadable. They are used for data encryption, authentication, and digital signatures.
Hash Values Indexed by Diskover
Diskover can currently index four different hash values. This extra metadata is viewable in the file attributes window and is also searchable, reportable, and actionable.
MD5 | SHA1 | SHA256 | XXHASH | |

Use Case Example | Film Production Set
Data has an extremely high value at the point of capture which may be on set when original camera files are captured and stored to a DIT Cart (Director of Image Technology). These OCF (Original Camera Files) files are often transferred from a laptop on set to a cloud provider.
The onset personnel might use a variety of tools or data movers to complete the file transfers, however there is often no standardization of mechanisms to achieve such transfers. The hash differential plugin is designed to checksum both the OCF files onset and the corresponding transfer destination in the cloud provider.
Data from the original source as well as the migration results can quickly be indexed, harvesting hash values in the process. Those hash values can then be compared in one click to validate data integrity.
A manifest in the form of a CSV file is generated and sent via email if any discrepancies are detected. An email can also be triggered to provide insurance upon transfer completion that all files arrived uncorrupted.
Please go to the Video tab for an animated version of this use case.
File Action
From the Diskover user interface, validation can be achieved in one click using the hash diffs File Action. The validation can be launched for single or multiple line items at a time.
Report in the User Interface
A new tab will open with an empty report if no discrepancies were found or will show a list of corrupted files.
Report via Email
A manifest in the form of a CSV file is generated and sent via email if any discrepancies are detected. An email can also be triggered to provide insurance upon transfer completion that all files arrived uncorrupted.
